Eat of the Week: These Deliciously Chewy Tteok-bokki at Okada Manila’s KBBQ Restaurant

The stir-fry Korean street food laced with gochujang makes a delicious appearance on Goryeo's menu -- you must try these rice cakes before you binge on fine Korean barbecue!

Just like our love affair with K-Dramas, Korean barbecue is here to stay. There's something about the grilled meats that we can't get enough of, but that's just dipping your toe in the water — there's much more to savor and rave about when it's Korean cuisine we're talking about. And if you find yourself at Okada Manila's new premium KBBQ restaurant, don't miss out on this delicious stir-fry appetizer.

Tteok-bokki by Goryeo Korean Dining

Goryeo is an authentic Korean Barbecue restaurant serving the best quality meats with a selection of traditional banchan that changes every day. Before you sink your teeth into the different mouthwatering grilled meats here, get friendly with their Tteok-bokki, a Korean street food favorite of chewy rice cakes laced with gochujang.

The fat rice cake 'noodles' have a firm and gummy texture a little similar to the Japanese mochi or the Chinese tikoy, but chunkier, with more bite and less stickyness. Included in this spice-loaded mix are chewy and spongy fish balls, thin sheets of fish cake, cabbage, scallions, and one hard boiled egg. Every chewy bite is laced with lots of Korean flavors — sweet and slightly spicy — that make it extremely addicting to eat and the perfect companion for some beer or sake. It's very common to see people snacking on these by the streets or bars in Korea, and these springy rice cakes swimming in sweet chili broth is your best bet to get the KBBQ party started in Goryeo.
