What started as an eyewear business, Sunnies Studios has upped its game with Sunnies Café serving honest-to-goodness comfort food giving it a modern twist. The Café isn't at all different from the eyewear brand as everything is easy in the pocket. Plates start at P190 and they're good for sharing, we couldn't believe it! The Sunnies team – Martine Cajucom, Georgina Wilson, Bea Soriano-Dee and Eric Dee Jr. – reveals they've wanted to open a café even before opening up the eyewear business.
The Megamall branch is similar to its first branch with its light hued furniture and pastel-colored walls, every corner at the café is picture perfect and as what most people would say, Instagam-worthy. Sunnies Café shouldn't be known just for its lovely interior but also for its delectable food choices and refreshments. We got to try almost everything at the restaurant and here are must-try items off their menu for the ultimate Sunnies Café experience:
Start off with their Skinny Fries (P190) which we couldn't stop munching on! It's a plate of crisp shoestring potatoes drizzled with truffle oil served with sriracha aioli on the side for dipping. Their Spicy Calamari (P180) on the other hand is not the usual squid rings! It's deep-fried and has a spiced salt batter served with garlic and sriracha aioli. A dish perfect for brunch that would instantly wake you up with its kick.
You may have seen their Crispy Tacos (P270) on your feed already since it's their most photographed item on the menu according to Eric Dee and Martine Cajucom. This is not your usual Mexican fare though, instead of the usual corn tortilla, its taco shells are crispy parmesan that's made in-house every day. It has flavorful and tender Asada steak, cilantro cream sauce and bright fried quail eggs to complete the dish.
If you prefer something different, the Whole Roasted Cauliflower (P340) should be on top of your list. It is a full head of cauliflower that's fried then grilled and served with bite-sized chorizo pieces, salsa, cilantro and a sweet piquillo pepper sauce. For cheese lovers, order the Fried Goat Cheese Squares (P280) served with basil garlic pesto and sweet chili jam on the side.
There's also the Steak Lime (P270) salad: sous vide hanger steak, 65-degree egg, crispy shallots, mixed greens and drizzled with cilantro aioli dressing. Part of their all-day brunch, the Sunnies Risotto (P370) has grana padano cheese, caramelized bacon, homemade gravy and sous vide egg on top which breaks perfectly.
The café also have a good lineup for pasta that's great for sharing or for when you go solo. Order the Spicy Pomodoro (P270) which has the perfect al dente linguine pasta tossed in a tangy mixed seafood sauce if you want a little kick and get the White Truffle Cream (P340) that's the classic cream-based pasta drizzled with truffle oil.
A Martine Cajucom approved dish, the Pan-Seared Miso Salmon (P470) is perfect if you want something healthy yet filling. For Bea Soriano-Dee, the Chicken and Pancake (P260) is the perfect dish since you can eat it any time of the day! It's a huge cut of country-style fried chicken, served with truffled sunny side up egg and spiced maple syrup you can drizzle on the buttermilk ricotta pancake!
What's a cafe without some good 'ol milkshake? The KIMYE (P190) which gets its name from power couple Kanye West and Kim Kardashian is Georgina Wilson's favorite! A mixture of cookies and cream ice cream, Nutella, crushed Oreos and malted milk in one glass. Other flavors include Salted Caramelsutra, Charlie's Golden Ticket and Vanilla Malt.
You don't want to miss out on their dessert either. The Black Bottom Banana Cream Pie (P340) is the perfect dish to end your meal at Sunnies Cafe if you have a sweet tooth! It has an Oreo-crusted pie, fresh bananas, silky cream filling and loads of whipped cream… definitely a sugar overload! If you want something lighter, try the Sunnies Funfetti (P290) which is a plate of chunks of creamy tres leches cake, whipped cream, a scoop of homemade vanilla bourbon ice cream and birthday sprinkles because, why not?
