Floating Island Turns 50: Makati’s Iconic Hospital Resto Expands with 2 Branches

The iconic hospital restaurant in Makati has expanded with two standalone establishments in the metro, located at Ayala Malls the 30th and at the second level of Ayala North Exhange, Makati.

The iconic hospital restaurant in Makati has expanded with two standalone establishments in the metro, located at Ayala Malls the 30th and at the second level of Ayala North Exchange, Makati.

Floating Island's branch at Ayala North Exchange is just a short walk away from Makati Med — the very first location of the restaurant

For those who grew up in the 80s and 90s and have visited Makati Medical Center, your childhood memories of the hospital would often have a pitstop for homestyle eats at Floating Island. Homey meals like adobo rice, crispy pata, and boneless bangus have been reliable staples of folks of decades past — the kind of foodies that relied on word of mouth rather than online likes and shares — and now that the brand is celebrating its 50th year (it has been open since December 1969) in the food business, the restaurant promises to continue serving up the good comfort food that many have come to love.

New look, same flavor: while the standalone restaurants sport polished and modern interiors, customers can expect their old-time favorites and best-selling dishes on the menu

And for the younger folks? A taste of the favorites from the yesteryears that make for a solid menu showcasing down-home grub that taste even better when shared. It was fifty years go that Mr. Vince Revilla decided to open up a place that would be everyone's 'home away from home' to comfort themselves with food whenever they find themselves in the Makati hospital. The second generation with son Alex Revilla is now at the helm, ensuring the restaurant continues to comfort every guest with their well loved dishes.

Here's a look at some of the all-time favorites that put Floating Island on the map (and that you should order soon!):

Crispy Kangkong with Aioli Sauce (P135)
Who else grew up eating this classic Filipino appetizer dipped in garlicky sauce?
Sizzling Squid Sisig (P325)
Crispy Pata (P870, good for 3-4)
Tender meat and thunderously crispy skin makes this one of the long time favorites
Kare-Kare (P515, good for 2-3)
Another classic that begs for extra servings of rice!
Dagupan Boneless Bangus (P680, good for 2-3)
A personal favorite! This supersized crispy deep-fried bangus is best paired with garlic rice and vinegar as sawsawan.
Sizzling Chicken (P460)
Pancit Maria (P285)
A Floating Island original, this flavorful pancit uses a thin flat noodle with a softer bite, while its vegetable toppings add great crunch in every forkful (it's also available for takeaway in bilao sizes)
Adobo Rice (P420, good for 1-2)
Another customer (and personal) favorite perfect for sharing as it comes with generous chunks of adobo to make this a meal on its own
Buko Fruit Salad (P145)
Halo-Halo (P240/Regular, P285/Special)
Coffee Jello with Vanilla Ice Cream (P185)
A refreshing way to end your meal if you want just a subtly sweet but creamy dessert
