Earlier this year, Lenovo launched the Yoga Slim 7— a device headlined as a powerful machine that offers style and exceptional mobility. As Lenovo put it, the Yoga Slim 7 is for the modern worker who needs a laptop that can fit right into their busy lifestyle.
Lenovo has been kind to let us have a try at the Yoga Slim 7 14IIL05 and test out its promising capabilities. After a week of using the device, here’ what I think about it.
Design & Display
The moment I took the Yoga Slim 7 out of its box, I instantly fell in love with its looks. We got our hands on the Orchid color variant which has an elegant purple hue. With its matte aluminum finish, the laptop isn’t too prone to unwanted finger marks. It also aces the mobility department with its light and slim design.
As a Yoga laptop, its screen offers more flexibility that it could lay flat on the surface. It has a 14″ FHD (1920 x 1080) display that can go up to 300nits of brightness which for me, worked best at 75% in a room with ample lighting. The thin bezels also make the well-saturated display pop even more.
On top of the display is the IR camera which also secures the device through facial recognition. It doesn’t have the Privacy Shutter which seems to have become a staple feature to Lenovo laptops.
Besides this Orchid color variant, the Yoga Slim 7 also comes in Dark Moss, Slate Grey. Other unconventional designs include the Slate Grey fabric which has a stain-resistant textile cover and the Yoga Slim 7i Carbon which has a catchy white casing. This series really gives you the option to stand out with unique yet stylish designs.
Keyboard & Ports
The Yoga Slim 7’s keyboard skips the number keypad, so the keys do not feel crowded despite the laptop’s petite build. Furthermore, the keys produce very minimal sounds so you’d be more confident working on coffee shops or at the office.
The keyboard is flanked by two 2W Front-facing Dolby Atmos speakers which are already loud and clear even at 60% volume, given that there are no distracting noises in the room.
I have no qualms with its trackpad. It offers a lot of space for your finger and the left and right buttons are easy to click on.
As for the ports, the laptop’s left side has two Type-C ports– one supports Power Delivery 3.0, Thunderbolt 3.0, USB 3.24 Gen 2, and DisplayPort while the other is solely for Power Delivery 3.0. Joining these Type-C ports are the HDMI port and an audio combo jack.
Found on the right side are two USB-A 3.2 Gen 1 ports, a MicroSD card slot, and the power button. Unlike other Yoga devices, this laptop does not have a fingerprint reader.
Performance
Under its chassis, the Yoga Slim 7 14IIL05 has an Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce MX350 2GB GDDR5, 16GB Soldered LPDDR4X-3200 memory, and 512GB SSD. Such specs give the device plenty of power for productivity tasks.
Tasks such as browsing the internet, typing up documents, and simple photo editing is a piece of cake with this device. I even played Genshin Impact with it and the Yoga Slim 7 ran it smoothly enough at an average of 31 fps (via Fraps) even at high settings.
If you’re a professional who will mostly use the Yoga Slim 7 for working on your documents, online browsing, and other similar tasks, then you’re good to go with this device. Check out some of its benchmarks below:
Cinebench – 1,280
Geekbench 5 – 1,293 (Single core)/ 4,495 (Multi-core)
CPU-Z – 2348.1 (Multi-thread)/ 477.4 (Single Thread)
As for its thermals, this laptop heats up in just 30 minutes when gaming or doing other heavy tasks. But there’s no problem when you’re doing light tasks. The preinstalled Lenovo Vantage can also help you control and balance its processing.
Battery life
Battery is one of the Yoga Slim 7’s biggest strengths, making it even more ideal for professionals who are always on-the-go. The Type-C charging port allows you to easily power it up with a laptop power bank, in case there is no electrical outlet nearby.
Thanks to its Rapid Charge Pro feature, the battery went up to 50% in just about 30 minutes when charged idly with its 95W charger. When streaming with 70% brightness and 74% volume (my preferred settings using the device), it only went down 10% in an hour.
When I played Genshin Impact with the same brightness and 78% volume, however, it went down 40% in just 30 minutes. This isn’t surprising as we’re not really expected to use the device for unplugged gameplay.
Still, when used only for streaming or other non-graphic-heavy duties, the Yoga Slim 7’s battery can last pretty long; plus the option to have a handy power bank if something unexpected occurs is really convenient.
Conclusion
The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7 is charming and powerful, designed with mobility in mind. The purple-colored laptop may sound quirky but the Yoga Slim 7 pulls it off as an elegant aesthetic.
Despite its lightness and slim build, the Yoga Slim 7 does not compromise when it comes to processing power and battery life, and it could very well keep up with one’s daily needs for their business or profession. It could even support their gameplay when it’s time to decompress.
For those who have a tighter budget, this Yoga series also offers a more affordable alternative by adding a AMD Ryzen 5 4500 variant for only P49,995.
Still, this model powered by an Intel processor does not feel overpriced with its P69,995 tag. As Lenovo intended, it is a perfect fit for the modern worker with a busy lifestyle, and for those who are covered by that category, I don’t see any compromises in choosing this device.
