Toritake, Shibuya’s Famous Yakitori Joint, Is Now in Manila!

Shibuya's famous yakitori has finally opened in Manila, so you don't have to book a flight to Japan just to get a taste of what Japanese people are lining up for back home!

Shibuya's famous yakitori has finally opened in Manila, so you don't have to book a flight to Japan just to get a taste of what Japanese people are lining up for back home!

Toritake – which first opened in 1963 in Japan – specializes in serving Yakitori. With more than 55 years in the business, this hole-in-the-wall restaurant in Shibuya continues to maintain its authenticity – from choosing the ingredients to the actual grilling technique they will be using. This is why it's no wonder why locals frequent this place, may it be for a quick lunch or for an after-work meal with a couple of drinks.

Luckily, you wouldn't have to go too far to experience the dishes Toritake is famous for as they have just opened a branch in UP Town Center! Just like its store in Japan, their local branch also takes pride in serving good and authentic yakitori dishes that are also good for sharing between barkadas and families.

Perfect for the students in the area, Toritake serves rice meals which are hefty enough to fill them for hours. Their bestsellers include the Yakitori Don (P310) and the Chicken Kijiyakidon (P270), both of which are doused in Toritake's signature yakitori sauce, and served with miso soup and a side of vegetables.

They can also try out their Chicken Katsu (P270), also served with rice, a side of soup and vegetables, if they're more into fried than grilled dishes.  Those who are looking for something that would fit the rainy days can also order their Toritake Special Soup (P120), which has a rich chicken flavor.

Since Toritake is known for their grilled chicken dishes, it's only natural that you get some of their best yakitori offerings and have it paired with a nice cocktail or a cold beer. The process they follow from the preparation to the cooking is the same as Japan. Their chicken must weigh 2 kilograms or more, must never be frozen or thawed, so diners get nothing but the freshest chicken skewers.

Toritake also brought in a number of drinks from Japan which would pair well with yakitori. So whether it's Sapporo beer, a cocktail, or a shot of sake you want, you would for sure get them here.
