Pampanga has so much more to offer than its famous sisig and kakanin. If you explore this foodie capital, you’ll find yourself also amused with its new breed of charming cafes that aren’t only picturesque but are also staying true to what Kapampangans are known for – good food!

Here’s a list of cafes in Pampanga that you shouldn’t miss on your next food trip!

1. Coffee Cat

It's the purrfect place to chill for the feline lovers or for the ones (like me) not a fan but would like to give cats a chance. Coffee Cat just opened last month and is already becoming the talk of the town because it’s the first of its kind in Pampanga.

Coffee Cat is owned and managed by Jasmine Edwards, whose love for cats led her to opening a cat café. For most people, dog is a man’s best friend, but for Jasmine, her cat was her best friend for 15 years. Her cat moved with her from United States to Japan, then here in the Philippines.

Coffee Cat houses both international cats and “puspins” also known as pusang Pinoy. International breeds of cats that can be found in Coffee Cat include kinkalow, Scottish fold, sphynx, Persian, Maine coon, Siamese, American short hair, munchkin and savannah. Occasionally, they invite guest cats for a certain period as an addition to their already adorable lineup. Coffee Cat also helps puspins by looking for people who would like to adopt them. Stray cats are almost everywhere and finding them a home is such a great advocacy.

Aside from the lovely cats that they have, people should visit Coffee Cat for their food, too! We especially liked their Pizza, Creamy Cajun Pasta (P220), Grilled Cheese served with Tomato Soup for dipping (P220), Porchetta (P210), and Rainbow Cake! They also serve all-day breakfast. The cats are kept in a separate lounge from the area where guests are seated for dining.

Sometimes, the cafe also invites artists to come over and showcase their talents. Pampanga’s very own Pot Sembrano (acoustic singer) and Tim Tayag (a pioneer of observational style stand-up comedy in the Philippines and Asia) have performed here.

Coffee Cat is located at Camia Road, Paradise Compound, Brgy. Cutcut, Angeles City. It is open from Tuesday to Sunday, 11AM – 9PM. (@CoffeeCatPH on Facebook and Instagram)

2. Owl Milk Tea and Snack Bar

Owl Milk Tea and Snack Bar is all sorts of dainty, cozy, and bright. Stepping inside their store would immediately lighten your mood because of cute owl designs and the pleasing aroma of milk tea. People who have a thing for owls and milk tea will be happy to be here.

The owners, Jorn Choa and Clarence Chua, both from Manila, are childhood friends. They have always wanted to be in the food and beverage industry and what better place to fulfill that dream than in the country’s culinary capital – Pampanga? In preparation for their venture, both of them took courses related to food and drinks. When asked about the story behind Owl’s name, the owners shared that they are both night owls. Coincidentally, owls represent grace and wisdom and they want to be known as a brand who’s in-the-know of what their customers want, to better serve them. Their official hashtag #OwlOrNothing tells us a lot about their confidence in their brand’s quality and standards, that they don’t mind going toe-to-toe with the big players in the market.

Milk tea is both of the owners' go-to drinks, their personal favorites at Owl are Oreo Milk Tea (50% sugar) with nata de coco for Jorn, and Matcha Milk Tea (25% sugar), for Clarence.

Other flavors that you should try are Strawberry Yoghurt, Matcha Latte, Pearl Milk Tea, Taro Milk Tea with Hantien Jelly, Passion Fruit with Tricolor jelly, and Jasmine Tea with cream cheese.

Owl Milk Tea and Snack Bar is located at Upper G/F Unit 4, Newpoint Mall, Angeles City. It is open daily from 10AM to 10PM. (@owlmilkteabar on Facebook and Instagram)

3. Somerset Café

Missing the beach and the island vibe? Then have a dose of summer when you head on over to Somerset Café! This beach themed café will surely cure your seapanx not just this summer, but all year long. From the interiors to food presentation, this place is definitely an Instagrammer’s playground!

What to order? Get yourself their Creamy Chicken Pesto Pasta, Soy Garlic Cauliflower (healthy alternative for chicken lollipops), Surfer’s Burger (the patty is made of mushroom), and the Somerset Special Salad which has apples, grapes, walnuts, olives, and chicken!

For drinks, their Strawberry Yoghurt Juice is super refreshing! And if you are a sweet tooth, you should go for their Salted Caramel Matcha and S’mores Frappe. It's also good value for money when you dine here, as the price range of food and drinks (good for two!) is P300 – P500.

Somerset Café is located at G/F Unit 9, Ameluz Bldg., Sto. Entierro Street, Brgy. Sto. Cristo, Angeles City. It is open from 10AM to 10PM daily. (@cafesomersetph on Facebook and @cafe_somerset on Instagram)
